Macmillan Cancer Support Fund Raiser at Bayside Cabin

On a warm sunny day, yes, we did have one, on 30 August 2008 at Bayside Cabin, Stokes Bay, Gosport overlooking the Isel of Wight, a total of £268.00 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support. The activities were similar to the ones undertaken at the Alverbank Hotel. Raffle prizes were donated by the Bayside Cabin and Keith Kendall a local driving examiner.

Many thanks to all who attended and donated raffle prizes.  Many Forester members came along for

a brunch and took part in the proceedings. Thanks must also go to those who volunteered and helped on the day.

Garden Fete at Alverbank Hotel

The Garden Fete at the Alverbank Hotel, which was part of Gosport Open Day held on 13 July 2008 raised £265.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support.  To raise this sum of money Foresters provided several activities which included temporary airbrush tattoo, children's colouring competition and raffle.  Alverbank Hotel donated £50 of vouchers to use at the hotel, which was included in the raffle.

Charity Bar-B-Q

CartoonOur Charity Bar-B-Q was held on 28 June at Alverstoke in Gosport.  In trepidation the curtains were opened on Sunday morning to see the weather looking a little dull. However by the time the six workers began to prepare the food the sun had started to peek out from behind the clouds. The event was due to start at midday and when the time arrived the sun was wearing a great big smile and was streaming down on the garden. Everyone was in high spirits and all had a very enjoyable afternoon.  As a result of this event a sum of £220 was collected for the Branch charity.

Roy Brown thanked Kay & Pat Glenn, Martin & Alison Coward and Rosemary & David Jasper for all their hard work in arranging the event.  Last year it was rained off and the decision was taken that this year rain or shine the event would still go on. Fortunately the sun shone down and made the day complete.

Kay Glenn, one of the organisers, said “The companionship and good humour of all those present made it a joy to organise”.

Charity Collection

Collection Can

It was a fine Friday on 6 June when a band of brave volunteers took their places at Morrison’s in Gosport to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. They were overwhelmed with donations coming in thick and fast during the whole day. Friday was not considered to be a good day for collections. How wrong we were!!  Thanks must go to all those who collected throughout the day.  We were thrilled with the final total of £399.83!

Charity Collection

CartoonA charity collection on 5 April at Somerfield in Portchester raised £188.24 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Even though it was the F A Cup semi final with Portsmouth City playing for a place in the finals and  also the Grand National I thought we did extremely well to raise this sum of money said Kay Glenn.

My thanks to all the collectors and if there are any members who would like to assist us when we do store collections please contact me.
