Events Listing
Welcome to Members of Isis.
As I write this message it is nearing the
end of August and I am wondering when summer is going to
start. We are not down-hearted in Isis as we have again had
some successful events.
In April a party of 20 people attended a
lunch and matinee performance at The Mill at Sonning. In May
we had a very entertaining Barn Dance with certain people causing
great hilarity when they just could not get the steps
correct. On a fine day in May we took a coach party to the
Malvern Spring Gardening Show where people had the opportunity to
see the show gardens, as featured on television and also to perhaps
purchase some bargain plants as the show ended at 5pm.
In July we went to Drayton Manor Theme Park
where, despite somewhat mixed weather, we all had a good day on the
rides. Our recently held annual Skittles evening was as popular as
ever and encouraged players from the age of 5 years upwards.
As well as our own Branch events, several
people have joined with members from other Branches on breaks
organised by the Regional Council. Future breaks include the early
Christmas weekend in November at Shanklin and four-nights in
Torquay next April. There are also opportunities to travel
abroad in 2009. These events are always well attended and
fun-filled from start to finish. If you require more details
please telephone me.
Our fund-raising efforts have been somewhat
disappointing this year, due to lack of volunteers through
illness. If you feel you could give some time to help us in
2009, please contact me. On the positive side, we are just
about to sponsor the Saturday Children’s Show at Radio Cherwell,
the Oxford Hospitals’ Broadcasting Association. We will be
enabling them to purchase a mobile deck to take into the wards in
order that the children can have the opportunity to participate in
the show. We are also providing sponsorship for the prizes
for the weekly competitions.
We are looking forward to our next coach
outing to Birmingham in November – please see separate
details. The Christmas Lunch has restricted numbers and
therefore you are asked to apply early. Priority will be
given to those who were unable to secure a place last year.
If you have not joined us before, why not come to our Christmas
Social with all your family or bring along a friend. Start
2009 by joining us at the Playhouse for Sleeping Beauty, but please
apply early for tickets.
Please remember to enclose a stamped
addressed envelope with your applications.
We will be planning the 2009 programme in
the next couple of months and if there is anything you would like
to suggest for an event, please let me know as we like to cater for
everyone.
