Ladies Meetings

Our small group of ladies usually meet on
the third Tuesday of every month, mostly in each other’s
homes. So far this year we have played “Countdown”, had a
very entertaining speaker, entered the Regional Council Ladies Quiz
(where our team came a very credible second) and had a lovely
evening stroll along by the river and ended up at a local
pub. Our next event is an outdoor games evening, and as our
partners are invited it usually ends up as Ladies v the Men.
We hope to have a craft evening later in the year and we are trying
to arrange for a speaker to come and talk to us about Cactus and
Succulents. Photo above shows Maureen MacGregor & Ann
Bailey with ‘feelie bags’ at our July meeting.
If any lady member is interested in joining
our small friendly group, or would like more details, please do
give me a ring on 020 8890 3391 you would be most welcome.

Charity
The outing to Hastings gave
me the opportunity to run a small raffle on the coach, the proceeds
of which will be added to our fundraising for The Salvation Army
(Charity No. 214779). We hope to have a speaker from The
Salvation Army at our Branch Meeting on Tuesday 9 September at The
Civic Centre, Hounslow. However, this is dependent upon the
speaker’s availability and will be confirmed in August.

Stampede
Did you know that Gum Arabic was the original
adhesive on postage stamps? Did you know that the Postmaster
General, John Stonehouse, introduced the 2 tier postal system
(1st and 2nd class post) in the late
60’s? Did you know that Heathrow Branch collect all postage
stamps which are sold to raise funds for Save the Children Fund
(Charity Number 213890)?
For those members who are already saving these for us, thank you
very much. As I have said before, I am happy to collect, trim
and take as many as I can get to the Fund Co-ordinator. Every
stamp really does count, so please keep them coming. Either
send them to me or any Branch Officer or bring them to any Branch
meeting or event. Your help is really appreciated by me, and
the children helped by the Save the Children Fund.
