Leonard Cheshire Disability Annual Read-a-Thon

Leonard Cheshire Disability logoElm Grove Branch are pleased to support Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD) with their annual Read-a-Thon.

The Branch are sponsoring the cost of running the Read-a-thon in 50 participating schools, including posting and providing all their pupils with information packs, thank you letters and a personalised certificate of appreciation and covering the charity administration and overhead costs.

Over the last two years, LCD have run Read-a-thon’s with a number of primary schools in North Oxfordshire with great success.  The 2008 Read-a-thon will run from the 6th October to the 7th November.

The main aims of the Read-a-thon are:

  • to encourage children to read for pleasure and for purpose (reading tasks are divided by Key Stages and by year groups)
  • to create greater awareness of disability and disability issues by promoting social responsibility and life skills
  • to raise much needed funds for both your school and for Leonard Cheshire Disability

Schools and their pupils are being encouraged to take part in this fundraising event, and will be provided with a pack containing fun reading tasks, creative storytelling and imaginative word games & puzzles.

The funds raised will be split on a 50/50 basis between the charity and the participating school. Last year the average amount raised per participating pupil was just under £15.

If you require any further information on the Read-a-thon, please contact Maurice O’Connor on 01295 713250 or by e-mailing to Read-a-thon@LCDisability.org.

Leonard Cheshire Disability is 60 years old this year and their mission today remains true to Leonard Cheshire’s founding vision: to change attitudes to disability and to serve disabled people around the world.
