Foresters and CLIC Sargent – Making the Future Brighter for
Children with Cancer
The relationship between Foresters and CLIC Sargent has steadily
been growing stronger and 2006 proved to be a record-breaking year
with over £219,000 raised from joint fundraising events.
With no government funding, CLIC Sargent
relies entirely on support like ours to continue to provide much
needed help to the ten children and young people diagnosed with
cancer every day in the UK.
The funds make a real and tangible difference
towards services like TOPS (Teenage Oncology Patient Support). TOPS
helps teenagers with cancer to continue having a normal ‘teenage
life’ by organising holidays and activities with people of their
own age. Undergoing treatment for cancer has a major impact on the
lives of children and can mean they feel separated from their
friends and peers due to long periods on the hospital ward. One
teenager recently back from a TOPS trip to Ireland says, “Everybody
there has some form of cancer, it made you realise you were not the
only one it happened to. It was a great experience and a wonderful
holiday, I would recommend it to anyone who gets the chance to
go.”
